Penry Williams, Sketch of a large oak tree in a landscape, drawn on a letter

Sketch of a large oak tree in a landscape, drawn on a letter, 21 November 1824

Penry Williams (1802 - 1885)

RA Collection: Art

This sheet is part of a letter from Penry Williams to Sir Thomas Lawrence describing the writer's travels in England and Wales. His account seems to have been requested by Lawrence and includes three detailed landscape sketches, one on this sheet and two on another, separate, sheet (09/2059).

On the other sheet, Williams refers to this drawing: "I ... have also been engaged upon a large study in oil of a very fine old oak tree, in the neighbourhood of Piercefield a small sketch of which I have sent you on the other side. The weather still denies me the opportunity of finishing the picture".
