John Gibson RA, Sketch of a female figure flanked by two children and sketches of horses

Sketch of a female figure flanked by two children and sketches of horses, 19th century

John Gibson RA (1790 - 1866)

RA Collection: Art

On the recto of this sheet are two pencil drawings of a figure riding a horse, possibly for 'The Hours Leading the Horses of the Sun' (03/2044). There is also a pencil sketch of a female figure flanked by two children, the child on the left is winged.

On the verso is a pencil sketch of a standing nude male figure wearing a plumed helmet supporting a draped female figure who has collapsed against his right leg. This probably depicts Achilles and Penthesilea, the Amazon Queen.
