The orginal photograph was taken by the artist's son at Silverbeck, a small farm in Churt, Surrey which Hook purchased around 1866.The farm, formerly known as Bulls Farm, was re-named by Hook after a clear bright stream which ran through the property. By 1891 Hook had purchased a number of plots of land and the house was considerably extended with a large studio added to the rear of the property.
