Henry Dixon & Son, Old Houses in the Strand

Old Houses in the Strand, ca.1886

From: Henry Dixon & Son

RA Collection: Art

"These houses are on the south side of the Strand, almost opposite to the Church of St. Mary-Le Strand. The regulations introduced after the Great Fire against the building of timber-houses has already been referred to under no.89. These houses were no doubt built before 1666, the date of the Fire, some details having been added in the early part of the 18th century."

The above description was written by Alfred Marks and was taekn from the descriptive letterpress which accompanies the photographs.
