"We have here, as in No.20, the residence of a great merchant of the beginning of the 18th century. Great Winchester Street was full of such houses, as we read in the Stow of 1720; Here was a great Messuage called the Spanish Ambassador's House, of late inhabited by Sir James Houblon, Kt., and Alderman of London" - he was also Governor of the Bank of England - " and also other fair houses of Sir John Buckworth and other merchants""
