Charles Lucy, Oil study of part of a suit of armour

Oil study of part of a suit of armour, ca. 1868?

Charles Lucy (1814 - 1873)

RA Collection: Art

An oil study of the top half of a suit of armour. The artist has painted in the face of a man with a moustache but has not painted the hands.

A figure wearing a similar, though not identical, suit of armour can be seen in Charles Lucy's painting The Forced Abdication of Mary, Queen of Scotland at Lochleven Castle, July 25, 1567. The study possibly relates to this work but as Lucy painted many historical scenes, most of which are now untraced, this cannot be confirmed.
