John O'Connor, Moon and Round Pool

Moon and Round Pool, ca. 1960

John O'Connor (1913 - 2004)

RA Collection: Art

John O'Connor was born in Leicester in 1913. He studied at Leicester College of Art and then the Royal College of Art (1934-1937) where his tutors included Eric Ravilious, John Nash and Robert Austin. Influenced by Ravilious, O'Connor developed a love of wood engraving and went on to write and illustrate many books including A Pattern of People (1959) and Landscape Painting (1968).

'Moon and Round Pool' is typical of O'Connor's still Suffolk landscapes of the 1950s and 1960s, which feature harvest moons, sunsets, marshes, ponds and rivers.
