Margaret Fisher Prout ARA, Midsummer

Midsummer, ca. 1960

Margaret Fisher Prout ARA (1875 - 1963)

RA Collection: Art

Margaret Fisher Prout was the daughter of the Academician Mark Fisher, who studied in France and was strongly influenced by his contemporary, Sisley, as well as other Impressionists. Margaret studied at the Slade and also taught life classes at Hammersmith School of Art, but her father's work seems to have been her greatest inspiration. She strove always to create an atmosphere of light and colour by the most economical means.

Margaret Fisher Prout had a keen interest in flower gardens and often painted outside. In this painting she evokes the soporific heat of a midsummer day to great effect.
