Sir Edwin Landseer RA, Little Red Riding Hood

Little Red Riding Hood, 1 May 1835

After Sir Edwin Landseer RA (1802 - 1873)

RA Collection: Art

This line-engraving was based on a painting by Landseer exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1831. Landseer's model for this picture was Lady Rachel Russell, who is said to have been the artist's illegitimate daughter. The print was also produced in colour; the small size meant that it could be used for trade and Christmas cards and it became a popularly reproduced image in the nineteenth century.
