John Constable RA, Landscape Study: Figures by a Clump of Trees

Landscape Study: Figures by a Clump of Trees, ca. 1823

John Constable RA (1776 - 1837)

RA Collection: Art

This sketch was probably painted in one of the London Parks such as Green Park. The number of people walking and riding suggests a central London or Westminster Park rather than the wilder, windy terrain of Hampstead Heath as was previously suggested as a location.

This sketch was probably made in the same park as Landscape Study: Scene in a Park (03/563) given the similarity of the handling in the two sketches. The two sketches may show the same avenue of trees from a different viewpoint.
