Joseph Parkin Mayall, John MacWhirter R.A.

John MacWhirter R.A., ca.1884

From: Joseph Parkin Mayall

RA Collection: Art

MacWhirter's address in 1875 is recorded as 6, Marlborough Road. He was later to commssion a substantial house by William Flockhart (1854–1913) in the style of a Italian Renaissance palace at 1 Abbey Road, St John's Wood and it is probably [copyright form, 1883, National Archibves, Kew] that this is the house in the photograph, though Graves The Royal Academy of Arts A Complete Dictionary of Contributors and their work from its foundation in 1769 to 1904 does not give this address until 1888.
