Sir George Clausen RA, Foggy landscape with road

Foggy landscape with road

Sir George Clausen RA (1852 - 1944)

RA Collection: Art

In this drawing. Clausen employed an unusual technique to create the atmospheric image of a lane with hedges, fields and trees to the left. The medium has been applied in sweeping movements snd a grainy texture is supplied by the coarse surface of the paper. Shapes and textures have been created through the careful erasure of areas of the pencil work. RA 05/672 is comparable in style and subject with RA 05/1612 (recto) and it is possible that both studies were executed during the early-mid 1880s
