Richard Redgrave RA, Colour study for 'The Reduced Gentleman's Daughter'

Colour study for 'The Reduced Gentleman's Daughter', c. 1842

Richard Redgrave RA (1804 - 1888)

RA Collection: Art

A sketch for 'Bad News from Sea'. Redgrave painted this scene and exhibited it at the Royal Academy in 1842.

The colours in this sketch are more pastel hues than those of the painting. There are some compositional differences as well: the woman's left hand gestures towards the baby's crib, and one child looks over the shoulder of the other, who is seated.
