Colour study for 'Bad News from Sea', c. 1842

Richard Redgrave RA (1804 - 1888)

RA Collection: Art

A sketch for 'Bad News from Sea'. Redgrave painted this scene and exhibited it at the Royal Academy in 1842.

This sketch differs from the painting in several ways. The baby's crib in the sketch is on the left hand side, the young girl is seated, the young boy is on the floor, the man and woman at the window are in reverse positions, and all the figures are wearing different clothing.
