Cast showing egg-and-dart above bead-and-reel from lower cornice, 19th century

On free display in The Dorfman Architecture Court

The cast shows an egg-and-dart motif above an astragal with bead-and-reel. It may be a cast of a small area of the lower cornice of the Arch of Septimius Severus (AD 203) in the Roman Forum or from a cornice that was in the 'Pescheria', the area around the Theatre of Marcellus in Rome, in the late 18th cenetury. The cast, as almost all casts of ancient objects from Rome, was probably acquired by the Royal Academy from Thomas Lawrence.
