On free display in The Dorfman Architecture Court

The cast is a modillion from the portico of the Forum in Ostia. The Forum was given its definitive monumental form under the Emperor Hadrian in the early second century.

This cast shows a cyma reversa frame decorated with leaf-and-dart and acanthus leaf with a double volute on the side.

This cast and other casts from the cornice were acquired by the Royal Academy from the collection of Thomas Lawrence in 1830.
