This capital is now in the Capitoline Museum in the Sala Verde. It currently supports a but this is a recent use of thie capital. The original may once have been in the Vatican Museums.

The cast was probably part of the Thomas Lawrence collection, which the Royal Academy acquired at his death in 1830. Entry no. 204 of the sales' catalogue reads 'Capital from the Magazine of the Vatican' and this may refer to this cast.
