The cast reproduces a coffer in the ceiling of the central passageway of the Arch of Septimius Severus (AD 203) in the Roman Forum. A large central flower is framed by acanthus leaf and then bead-and-reel mouldings.

This cast was acquired by the Royal Academy from Thomas Lawrence whose collection was sold on 10 May 1830.
