Rodney Burn RA, Bembridge Harbour

Bembridge Harbour, 1955

Rodney Burn RA (1899 - 1984)

RA Collection: Art

Rodney Burn studied at the Slade School of Art under Henry Tonks. He became a Member of the New English Art Club and also had a distinguished teaching career including three years as Director of the Boston Museum School of Fine Arts.

Burn's favourite subject was the sea and he frequently depicted coastal scenes around Chichester and the Isle of Wight. He often used a low viewpoint for his pictures to give a sense of involvement in the scene. His impressionistic technique catches the light and atmosphere of the harbour at low tide.
