Henry Dixon & Son, Ashburnham House - The Ante Room

Ashburnham House - The Ante Room, ca.1882

From: Henry Dixon & Son

RA Collection: Art

"The Ante-Room

The uppermost landing of the staircase gives direct access to the Dining Room and to the Ante-Room, which by way of a beautiful doorway communicates with the Drawing Room. The latter has a very rich ceiling of Jones's work, formerly, as shown by Sir John Soane's drawing (of about 1812), surmounted by a small oval dome or lantern, removed no doubt, when the upper storey was added to the building."

The above description, by Alfred Marks, was taken from the letterpress which accompanies the photographs.
