Chris Riddell, A Parliamentary Hog

A Parliamentary Hog, 12 May 1996 (publication date)

Chris Riddell (b. 1962)

RA Collection: Art

The political cartoonist and children's book author and illustrator, Chris Riddell, drew this satirical work for the Observer Review in 1996. Explaining the content of the drawing in correspondence with the Royal Academy, Riddell wrote: 'The figures are generic - a businessman, a journalist, a doctor and possibly peers or MPs hanging on to the Parliamentary Hog's coat tails. The figure urinating into the trough is a satirist, an anti-establishment figure making a nuisance of himself.'
