Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema RA (1836 - 1912)

RA Collection: Art

Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema’s second wife Laura Epps (right) sits beside her siblings, looking intently at the diptych Alma-Tadema painted to commemorate their marriage in 1871 (identifiable by its distinctive floral doors). The artist is also present, his reflection visible in the mirror placed behind the sitters.

Alma-Tadema gave this painting to Laura on the occasion of their silver wedding anniversary in 1896.
