The work consists of two portfolios, the first concerning the art works in Buckingham Palace and the second, those in Windsor Castle. it was published by command of His Majesty King Edward VII, by the Fine Arts Publishing Company. The first portfolio, for Buckingham Palace, consists of an introduction by Lionel Cust, the Surveyor of the King's Pictures and Works of Art, followed by a table of Contents showing the plates as divided by schools of art (e.g. English School). This is followed by the 100 photogravure plates, each plate preceded by descriptive letterpress and a guard sheet. The second portfolio, convering Windsor Castle, consists of an introduction by Lionel Cust followed by a table of Contents showing the plates as divided by schools of art (e.g. English School). This is followed by the 80 photogravure plates, each plate preceded by descriptive letterpress and a guard sheet.
Binding Note
Each portfolio is covered in cream cloth, the front board with red framing decoration and the title in gilt lettering (e.g. 'The Royal Collection Of Paintings' / 'Buckingham Palace' / '1905' or 'The Royal Collection Of Paintings' / 'Windsor Castle' / '1906').
The portfolio of Vol. I is in a cardboard box on the shelf.
