General Note

This is a photocopy of the original in the Sir John Soane's Museum Library (ref. no. 3303). This is a dealer's account of how he has successfully rescued Hogarth's original painting of 'A Modern Midnight Conversation' and a companion piece from the walls of the demolished Elephant public house in Fenchurch Street. The paintings, controversially attributed to Hogarth, were transferred from the plaster walls to canvas and displayed in a Pall Mall gallery.
