General Note

Although the plates themselves are not numbered, the title-plate calls for twenty 'imitations', and numbers are assigned to the plates in a printed label pasted onto the front pastedown: 'Title Plate' and 'No. 1(-20)'.

Responsibility Note

All plates are signed as drawn by Thos. Lawrence and engraved by F.C.Lewis, apart from pl. [12], which is unsigned.

In each case the signature of Lewis is also his imprint as publisher, reading 'Engraved and published by F.C. Lewis' with his address and the date - apart from pl. [12] (unsigned) and [20](carrying no publisher's imprint).

Summary Note

A printed label pasted onto the front pastedown reads, 'F.C. Lewis's Imitations Of Lawrence, In Twenty Plates' and lists 'The Title Plate (a Portrait of Lawrence)' and plates 'No.1(-20)'.

All plates carry the date 'April 1839', apart from plates [12], [16] and [20], which are undated.
