Born in Austria-Hungary, Joseph Zaehnsdorf (1816-1886) came to London in 1837 and established his own bindery studio ca. 1842. The firm was continued by his son, Joseph William Zaehnsdorf (1853-1930), and later by his grandson, Ernest J. W. Zaehnsdorf, until 1957.
