William J. Hooper (1916-1996) was a British cartoonist who is best known for creating the wartime character Percy Prune with Anthony Armstrong. He worked on a number of BBC programmes as an artist and presenter, including “Willy the Pup”. He also produced a number of cartoons for newspapers such as the Sunday Chronicle, the Star and Sunday Pictorial. His son, John Hooper, is a journalist for the Economist.
