Sean Steadman (b.1989, Chelmsford, Essex, UK) previously studied at Slade School of Art. Steadman exhibits paintings produced with a whole variety of collaged and constructed media, these sculpted, melted, collaged techniques form a synthesis with the painted surface to produce coherent pictures. His works are primarily interested in the problem that sits behind the obvious issue of figuration; how does one represent something in a picture? He stresses the more primordial problem, what is that ‘thing’ in the first place. This is in effect an issue of constructing and formulating mythologies not trying to see how the world ‘naturally’ appears independently.
