Rosemarie Trockel Hon RA (b. 1952)

Born 1952 in Schwerte, Germany, Rosemarie Trockel studied at the Fachhochschule in Cologne.

Trockel had her first exhibitions at the galleries Monika Spruth Cologne and Philomene Magers Bonn, both in 1983. Her work was shown internationally for example at Museum of Modern Art, New York (1988), Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago (1991), at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston (1991) as well as in various exhibitions in Europe.

Recent prominent solo shows include Märzôschnee ûnd Wiebôrweh sand am Môargô niana më at Kunsthaus Bregenz (2015), A Cosmos at Reina Sofia Madrid, New Museum New York and Serpentine Gallery London (2012/2013), Flagrant Delight at Wiels Brussels, Culturegest Lisboa, Museion Bozen (2012/2013) or Delisquence of the Mother at Kunsthalle Zurich (2010) and her retrospective Post-Menopause at Museum Ludwig Cologne (2005).

1999 she represented Germany as first women artist at the Venice Bienniale, 1997 and 2012 she took part in the documenta X at Kassel.

Trockel lives and works in Cologne.
