Pericle Luigi Giovannetti

RA Collection: People and Organisations

A Swiss artist and painter. He was born in Basel and spent most of his secluded life in Ascona. He is best-known for his cartoons, picture stories and anthropomorphic birds, that were published in magazines and anthologies. His biggest success was the marmot ‘Max’, who made his first appearance in the satirical British magazine Punch in 1952. Few people were aware of Giovannetti’s painting skills, since he never exhibited or sold his works.
