John Cooke (1738 - 1823)

Chaplain of Greenwich Hospital. Educated at Trinity College, Cambridge (B.A. 1761, M.A. 1764). He was chaplain to Greenwich Hospital, and a commissioner from 1773 till his death on 4 May 1823. He published An Historical Account of the Royal Hospital for Seamen at Greenwich, 1789; The Preservation of St. Paul from Shipwreck on the Island of Melita, A sermon preached at the opening of the chapel of the Royal Hospital for Seamen, 20 September 1789 and A Voyage performed by the late Earl of Sandwich round the Mediterranean. To which are prefixed memoirs of the noble author’s life, 1799.
