Landowner, army officer, politician, in Britain. Known as Lord Lorne until he succeeded to the dukedom in 1703. Son of Archibald Campbell, 1st Duke of Argyll (d.1703); brother of Archibald Campbell, 3rd Duke of Argyll (1682-1761).
