Anderdon was a banker and a collector of paintings, prints and autograph letters. He was the son of John Proctor Anderdon (1760-1846), and brother of Thomas Oliver Anderdon (1788-1856), both also collectors.

Anderdon compiled a second set of the Royal Academy annual exhibition catalogues covering the period 1769-1850 which he presented to the Royal Academy Library in 1875.
