Animal Painter.

He exhibited frequently at the Royal Academy in the annual summer exhibitions between 1792 and 1847. He also exhibited at the British Institution, the Suffolk Street Gallery and the Society of Painters in Watercolours between 1792 and 1849.

Chalon was painter of animals to the court of the Prince Regent and the Duke of York. He painted numerous portraits of horses and dogs including one of the thoroughbred horse Fidget (Victoria & Albert Museum, London).

His father, Jan Chalon (1749–95) was an artist, collector and engraver. He married Sarah Ward, (sister of James Ward RA). Their daughter, Maria A. Chalon (1797-1877) was a painter of miniatures who exhibited at the RA between 1819 and 1840.
