Engraver, etcher, draughtsman and publisher. Trained in Brussels and Antwerp; travelled to Cologne, London, Paris; in 1597 settled in the Hague (with short residence in Amsterdam and Leiden, 1603-5). Father of print-publisher Hendrik Hondius, the younger (ca. 1615 - 1676/7).
