Fanny McIan (1814 - 1897)

English artist who specialized in Scottish historical scenes. She was the first superintendent of Female School of Design, later the Royal Female School of Art. She exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts, 1836-1847.

Married the Scottish actor and painter Robert Ronald McIan (1803-1856). She was the first woman artist in Scotland to be honoured, becoming an HRSA in 1854.
