RA Collection: People and Organisations

Photographer. Whilst training as an optician, Ponti learnt photography in Paris before moving to Venice around 1852. Here he ran a shop selling optical equipment, and invented devices to view photographs in 3D. As was a common contemporary practice for an optician, he also sold photographs, notably views of Italian cities and works of art.
