Alice Theobald (b. 1985)

Alice Theobald (b.1985, Leicester, England) previously studied at Goldsmiths, University of London. Through a combination of moving image, text, spoken word, dance and music, Theobald produces live performance, video and installations that explore the tension, or “slippage”; between authenticity and spectacle, form and feeling, cliché and collective empathy.

Borrowing from the vocabulary of film, television, literature and pop music, Theobald’s practice repeatedly circles questions of representation and manipulation. She is concerned with constructs of the self within private and public space, of the emotions, of language and human relations, whilst drawing parallels between rehearsal and learnt ways of behaving in everyday life.
