Arts administrator, commissioner of buildings and works of art, collector of paintings and works of art, in Paris. Abel-François Poisson; from 1745 called himself de Vandieres; in 1754 was created Marquis de Marigny; in 1778 was permitted to style himself Marquis de Menars. Brother of Jeanne-Antoinette Poisson, marquise de Pompadour (1721-64).
