The cover title is Photographs from works of art in a private collection. The letterpress consists of a preface and description of each plate written by Henderson. The author prepared the work "as a slight record, intended only for presentation for a few friends who are acquainted with my Collection, and interested in the history of Art."

The front flyleaf is inscribed by the author and donor, Presented to th [sic] Royal Academy of Arts, London / by John Henderson / November 15th 1869.
Binding Note
The book is quarter-bound in green leather with 'Photographs from works of art in a private collection' in gilt lettering on the front board and on the spine, 'Photographs from works of art'.
