Summary Note

This is an expansion of the account of Velázquez given in Stirling's Annals of the artists of Spain (1847-8).

The title-page carries a vignette portrait of Velázquez.

A greatly enlarged version of Stirling's catalogue of prints after Velázquez was published in 1873.


The front pastedown is inscribed in pencil, 'S: A: H', i.e. S.A. Hart, Librarian of the Royal Academy 1864-81. Purchased for RA Library in 1870 (see 'Librarian's Report for the Year 1870', RA Annual Report, Appendix No. 6, p. 28).
