Summary Note

The title-plate shows Maria Theresa, Grand-Duchess of Tuscany, upon a pedestal, gesturing towards a prospect of Tuscany and a bust of Marchese Gerini, to whom the book is dedicated. At the foot of the pedestal is a bas-relief portrait of Zocchi. The etched views show villas near Florence. As well as showing houses and landscapes many are varied with representations of human activities - including the hats blown away by the wind in the plate of the Villa I Collazi. The work formed a companion volume to Zocchi's Scelta di XXIV vedute delle principali contrade, piazze, chiese e palazzi della città di Firenze, published in the same year.

Zocchi's preparatory drawings for both works are preserved at the Pierpont Morgan Library, New York.

Binding Note
