The work appeared serially: the descriptive text lists 300 plates in sixty 'cahiers', and the 'Annonce' states that 'ouvrages suivantes qui vont paraître successivement, peuvent en partie servir à compléter cette serie ... paraîteront par cahier ...'.

The text is printed in German and French in parallel columns.
