Inscribed in black ink on front free endpapder: "W.H. Chesson, Sat. Dec. 20. 1902" [Possibly the author Wilfrid Hugh Chesson (1870–1952), who wrote a short book on Cruikshank, in the Popular Library of Art series, published in 1908].
