They are captioned and show: [1] self-portrait; [2] album frontispiece; [3] muleteer; [4] Brentaccia; [5] pilgrim; [6] bandit; [7] repose (after Guercino); [8] S. Barnardo; [9] a sybil; [10] Prophet Ezra; [11] Circassian mounting a horse; [12] lion. Some are etched after paintings by Hayter.

The title-page vignette shows the head of a faun, surrounded by vine-leaves.

Provenance

The verso of the front loose endpaper is inscribed in pencil, 'S:A:H', i.e. S.A. Hart, librarian of the Royal Academy 1864-81.
