Summary Note

This edition, printed by Giacomo de' Franceschi, follows the text of the 1600 edition (printed by the 'Eredi di Francesco de' Franceschi', probably including Giacomo and Giovanni Antonio de' Franceschi). It includes the 1600 'Discorso' by G.D. Scamozzi and the general dedication (reprinted in 1600 from the 1584 edition); but differs from the 1600 edition in omitting the dedications to Books 1 and 7. Each book has a separate title-leaf; those for Books 1, 2, 4, 6 and 7 have the imprint 'In Vicenza...', and books 2 and 4 carry the date 1618.

The text is in seven books, describing: 1. 'principii della Geometria'; 2. 'Prospettiva'; 3. 'edificii antichi di Roma, e molti d'Italia, e d'altre parti'; 4. 'maniere de' cinque ordini'; 5. 'tempii sacri'; 6. 'cinquanta porte'; 7. 'nobili edificii ... varii accidenti'.

The woodcut illustrations show views, elevations, sections, plans and reconstructions of buildings.

A reprint was published in 1964 (London: Gregg).

Recorded in RAA Library, Catalogue, 1802.
