Summary Note

The work had first been published in 1645. It was the first manual for print-makers, and went through several editions and translations. Plates 1-10 show aspects of etching the plate; plates 11-16, aspects of printing it.

Provenance

The front paste-down is inscribed in pencil, 'S.A.H.', i.e. S.A. Hart, librarian of the Royal Academy 1864-81.
