Summary Note

The work had first been published in 1645. It was the first manual for print-makers, and went through several editions and translations.

Plates 1-10 show aspects of etching the plate; plates 11-16, aspects of printing it.


A microfiche version was published in 1989 (Cambridge: Chadwyck-Healey).


The front pastedown is inscribed in pencil, 'S.A.H.', i.e. S.A. Hart, librarian of the Royal Academy 1864-81.

Copy Note

A preliminary leaf is inscribed in ink with a ten-line note on the history of the editions of the work.

Binding Note
