Summary Note

Potter's translation of Aeschylus's verse dramas was first published in 1777, and with notes in 1778; and the present publication reprints the Preface with the date of 1777 and the dedication with the date of 1778.

The collection consists of verse translations of Prometheus Chain'd; The Supplicants; The Seven Chiefs Against Thebes; Agamemnon; The Choephoræ; The Furies; The Persians. The plays will have provided subjects suitable for history-paintings.

Potter afterwards published translations of Pindar, Euripides and Sophocles.
