A three volume work: vol. 1. Mammalia, vol. 2. Birds, vol. 3. Reptiles, fishes, molluscs, etc. In this set vol. 1 is dated 1865; vol. 2, 1867; and vol. 3 is undated on the title-page. The printer statement listed on the verso of the title-page of each volume was, 'London: R. Clay, Son, and Taylor, Printers, Bread Street Hill.'
Provenance
The front pastedown carries an owner's label printed 'Colonel Edward Snow Mason' and the front loose endpaper is signed in pencil, 'Edwd. Mason, / November 1868'.
Binding Note
The volumes are bound in a faded purple publishers' binding with decorative devices blind stamped on the front and rear boards and the spine lettered 'Natural / History. / Rev. J. G. Wood.' and 'Illustrated.' and Mammalia. [Birds. / Reptiles Fishes Insects]' and 'Routledge.'
