Summary Note

The text is a popularising summary of recent German research on Dürer; but ignores some sources (such as the Venice letters) which place Dürer in a less favorable light.

The frontispiece shows a portrait of Dürer. The plates and in-text illustrations show woodcuts and engravings. A note on the title-page verso states, 'Ten of the Illustrations in this volume are reproductions by the Autotype (carbon) process, and are printed in permanent tints by Messrs. Cundall and Fleming, under licence from the Autotype Company, Limited.'
